About BVU

Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU) was established on January 27, 2006, under Decision No. 27/2006/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister. Over more than 20 years of construction and development, BVU has strived to contribute numerous achievements to education, training, and scientific research, gradually becoming a source of pride for the people of the coastal city of Vung Tau (prior to the merger).

Situated in Vietnam’s maritime and tourism hub, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU) is a premier training center for the Southern Key Economic Region. BVU leads in strategic fields including Logistics, Maritime Economy, AI, Engineering, and Automotive Technology, alongside diverse programs in Health, Law, and Management. Goal

Ba Ria – Vung Tau University is an application-oriented university that aims to contribute to the country’s economic, social, and international integration by training high-quality human resources through strategic linkages between the university and enterprises, domestic and international organizations, and training, production, and services.

By 2030, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University aspires to emerge as a university with high national and international rankings, a reputable training, research, and technical assistance address in many fields, fully utilizing the benefits of the marine economy and internationalization to ensure international integration and sustainable development.

a) General objective: To become a reputable applied university both nationally and internationally, meet the quality standards of the industry, and national and international education bases, provide high-quality human resources to meet the practical needs of the labor market in the new era.

b) Training objective: Students of Ba Ria – Vung Tau University study in a modern and open educational environment, with a close and firm connection to businesses and labor market trends; graduate with creative and entrepreneurial aspirations; confidently and actively participate in the domestic labor market and international integration.

ESTABLISHMENT

Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU) was established on January 27, 2006, under Decision No. 27/2006/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister. Over more than 20 years of construction and development, BVU has strived to contribute numerous achievements to education, training, and scientific research, gradually becoming a source of pride for the people of the coastal city of Vung Tau (prior to the merger).

STAFF

The university currently has approximately 400 officials, lecturers, and staff, including more than 50 professors, associate professors, doctorates, and more than 200 masters. Many lecturers who accomplished their PhD studies overseas have returned to the university to continue teaching.

TRAINING RANGE

More than 20,000 students have graduated from BVU. Over 5200 students and trainees are currently enrolled. By 2030, the training scale is predicted to reach over 15,000 students, trainees, and PhD students.

FACILITY

In 2006, upon its founding, the University established two training campuses located at 80 Truong Cong Dinh, Vung Tau Ward, and 01 Truong Van Bang, Tam Thang Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2009, the University added another training facility at 397 Bui Thien Ngo, Rach Dua Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the total number of campuses to three. This expansion fully met the requirements for classrooms, practice rooms, laboratories, and recreational areas for over 7,000 students.

In 2014, the University signed a cooperation agreement to construct a student dormitory at 8-10 Tran Nguyen Han, Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, addressing the housing and living needs of students from distant areas.

In 2018, the University continued to build a dormitory at 397 Bui Thien Ngo, Rach Dua Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, with a capacity of nearly 200 residents.

From 2006 to the present, the University has continuously invested in constructing and renovating training facilities, building libraries, and developing practice and laboratory rooms. State-of-the-art machinery and equipment have been provided to serve teaching, learning, and scientific research activities. Currently, the University possesses 48 practice rooms and laboratories, including 16 computer labs and 32 specialized practice and laboratory facilities.

ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2011, BVU was honored with the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training. 

In 2014, BVU was recognized as an Innovative Enterprise. 

In 2016, BVU was honored to receive the Third-class Labor Medal from the Vietnamese President, the Emulation Flag of the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province and the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training. 

In 2019, BVU was assessed and recognized to achieve the institutional accreditation standards of the Ministry of Education and Training. 

In 2020, BVU won 3 stars from International external evaluation system QS Stars. 

In 2021, BVU won 4 stars from International external evaluation system QS Stars. 

In 2026, BVU was honored with the Traditional Flag—a prestigious recognition from the Ho Chi Minh City Emulation and Reward Department under the City People’s Committee.

BVU got 151 federal and local rewards for achievements in scientific research and innovative initiatives.

BECOMING A MEMBER OF NGUYEN HOANG GROUP (NHG)

In May, 2016, BVU officially became a member of Nguyen Hoang group (NHG) (Vietnam’s leading education group), and has then received significant investment in facilities, technical infrastructure together with innovative development orientations in the next 5-10 years that launching a new era of comprehensive and potent development.

ORGANIZATIONAL FRAMEWORK

BVU immediately advanced all aspects of the university’s operations after joining NHG to accomplish the strategic objectives of BVU progression in the next period. The reorganization of the university’s organizational structure, particularly, is one of the most significant decisions to make toward achieving the university’s aim of “Focusing on the quality of training and assisting students” in the coming era.

Accreditation of educational quality

To affirm the quality of its academic programs, from December 2024 to February 2025, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU) conducted a comprehensive Institutional Self-Assessment across all operational facets, with a strategic focus on key pillars: Education, Scientific Research, and Community Service.

From February 20 to 24, 2025, an official External Evaluation was conducted at BVU by the Saigon Center for Education Quality Assurance (CEA-SAIGON). Consequently, the university was officially conferred the Institutional Accreditation Certificate in May 2025.

As one of the pioneering institutions recognized under the newly issued rigorous standards, BVU serves as a testament to the transformative quality of private higher education. This achievement underscores the university’s commitment to continuous improvement and its alignment with the strategic educational development goals mandated by the Government and the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

4-star QS rating

On October 26, 2021, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU), a member of Nguyen Hoang Education Group (NHG), was officially awarded 4 stars in the thorough evaluation by the QS Stars Rating System implemented by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) – United Kingdom. 

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is the leading organization in educational research at international and national level. QS currently operates the QS World University Rankings, an annual rating of institutions throughout the world and one of the world’s most prominent and significant rankings. 

Consequently, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University is one of five 4-star universities in Vietnam and the country’s youngest to accomplish this QS Rating standard. 

In June 2020, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University (BVU) was awarded a three-star QS rating. BVU has consistently improved its quality in order to obtain better outcomes in accordance with quality evaluation criteria at national and international level. 

In June 2021, Ba Ria – Vung Tau University registered for a quality audit with QS Association. QS undertook a comprehensive and completely independent assessment of the university’s activities in data collection, audit, and evaluation in conformance with the QS Stars TM standard, which includes 12 standards and 67 criteria on teaching, student employment rate, internationalization, academic development, and social responsibility. As an outcome, QS declared that Ba Ria – Vung Tau University has achieved the 4-star QS Stars TM quality standard with a total score of 595. 

Brand Recognition

Logo and its Significance

The shield represents a firm, enduring foundation, symbolizing stability, strength, and resilience.

As the symbol of Saint Jacques and historically associated with the Ba Ria – Vung Tau region, the scallop shell also represents prosperity and abundant sea resources.

The shape of the icon is reminiscent of the prow of a ship cutting through the waves, symbolizing the pioneering position of BVU in the maritime economy – the forefront sector of the university.

Known for its graceful and agile nature, the seagull in flight reinforces the concept of ‘experience’ in the university’s tagline “A place to experience and succeed” for BVU.
