Establishment: Ba Ria - Vung Tau University was established under the Decision number 27/2006 /QD-TTg signed by Prime Minister on 27th January 2006. Over the past 10 years of development, BVU has endeavored to contribute many achievements in the fields of education, training, scientific research and gradually became the pride of Vung Tau people.

Joining Nguyen Hoang Group (NHG): In July, 2016, BVU joined Nguyen Hoang Group, officially became a member of the leading education group in Viet Nam, quickly received investment in infrastructure as well as development orientation breakthrough in the next 5 to 10 years, opening a new era of comprehensive and strong development.

Achivement:In 2015, BVU is honored to receive the third-class Labor Medal of the President; Emulation Flag of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province and Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, a lots of prizes on scientific research over the years.

Strategic position:

Ba Ria - Vung Tau University is located in the coastal Vung Tau city of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, which is the gateway to the East Sea of the provinces in the Southeast and the center of economy, finance, culture, tourism, transportand education of the South East and convenient connection with Ho Chi Minh City and other surrounding provinces by land, air, waterway and railway. Owning many beautiful beaches and well-equipped infrastructure, Vung Tau City is a well-known tourist destination in the South and a logistics area of Vietnam's oil and gas industry.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau University is the only university in Vung Tau city, which is a training institution to provide multidisciplinary human resources for Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, neighboring provinces as well as the whole country. BVU is also a scientific research center of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, where research projects on the application and transferring of advanced science and technology have been carried outand applied in society and production.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau University is an application-oriented university, contributing to the country's socio-economic development and international integration through training high-quality human resources on the basis of strategic linkages between the University and domestic and international organizations and enterprises, between training, production and services.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau University aims at, being a high-ranked university both nationally and internationally as well as a prestigious University for training, research and technology transfer in various fields in 2030, optimally promoting the advantages of marine economy and internationalization and ensuring global integration and sustainable development.

3. Goals

a) General objective:

Becoming a locally and internationally prestigious application-oriented university, meeting national and international quality accreditation standards at both program and institution levels, providing high-quality human resources to meet the real needs of the labor market in the new era.

b) Training objective:

Students of Ba Ria-Vung Tau University will experience their higher education in a modern open environment which is closely connected with businesses and labor market trends, graduate with creativity and start-up inspiration, confidently and actively dive into domestic and international working environment.

The university training system is flexible according to the demands of learners, including: full-time and part-time training, second degree, intercollege. In addition, the university also offersa variety of short-term certificate programs.

BVU offers multi-disciplinary training programs, with majors and specializations aligned with the socio-economic development and the needs of high quality human resource of the province,country and worldwide.

 The total number of students have graduated from BVU (by 2016) is 12.781, withover 80% employed after 1 year graduate (according to survey).

The current total number of students: 5.200

Training scale to 2020: projected to achieve 15.000 learners and PhD students.

Training program

BVU training program is an application-oriented training program which is constantly updated and adapted to the development and society requirements over each stage.




The total number of the university staff is 213 including33Professors, Associate Professors, and PhDs as well as131 lecturers holding Master's degree.Many of them have been graduated from international universities, and many faculties are international experts. The university's staff and faculties are very active, responsible,friendly, have creative thinking and especially have the spirit of "dare to innovate".


BVU now have 3 campuses located in the center of Vung Tau(Campus 1 – 80 Truong Cong Dinh, ward 3; Campus 2 – 01 Truong Van Bang, ward 7; Campus 3 – 951 Binh Gia, ward 9, Vung Tau City)which provide the classrooms, experiment laboratories, and playgrounds for more than 7,000 students.

The university's dormitory is located on 8-10 Tran Nguyen Han, ward 1, Vung Tau City to accommodate students from other provinces.

From 2006 up to now, the university continue to invest in re-construction and renovation ofinfrastructures, libraries and laboratories; provide modern equipment for teaching, learning and research activities. Currently, the university has over 30 practice rooms, including 11 computer labs, 20 experiment labs.

In the future, Nguyen Hoang Group will invest in the construction of lecture buildings, laboratories, stadiums, amusement parks for students, and particularly the superior dormitory accommodating up to 3,000 students.

Scientific research:

Scientific researchers: 05 Professors and Associate Professors, 26 Doctor's degree holders; 114 Master's degree holders; 58 Engineers and Bachelor's degree holders.

Completed scientific research projects: A total of 75 projects, including 01 Ministerial level project; 01 Provincial level project; 27 University level projects by teachers and 46 projects by students

Scientific publications: 368 research papers and journal articles

Organizational structure: Under the orientation of NHG, BVU has rapidly implemented all aspects of its operations to meet the strategic goals in the upcoming period. In particular, the reconstruction of university's structure is one of the most important decisions to achieve the goal of "focusing on the training quality and student services" in the coming period.

BVU logo is based on images of academic, history and geography of Ba Ria- Vung Tau province. These images are mussel, lighthouse and opening bookwith the Greek transcription words "Ephphatha" meaning "Open up".

Shield is the symbol for knights spirit, balance and sustainability

- In the educational field, shield promotes traditional and international values.

- Demonstrating a strong standing of a prestigious and quality university

Mussel is the symbol of Saint Jacques, the old name of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. It is also the symbol of prosperous and abundant resources of the sea.

The lighthouse is the ancient symbol of the Cap Saint Jacques land and also the symbol of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province today, which is the orientated and illuminated light for each student to the shore of success.

The opening book is the symbol of human knowledge. How many good things in the treasure of human knowledge are waiting for students.Let's open the book, which is the slogan that invites the enthusiastic students to progress on the path of learning. Binary sequences on the book represent for the foundation of the information technology generation. The combination of two symbols depicts the intertwining of both traditional and modern education.

"EPHPHATHA" meaning "Open up", it also means the philosophy of liberal education- open to change the old one to the new one, to go ahead, to develop and success.
