BVU jumping up 40 places in Webometrics rankings in 2019

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. Webometrics was first pintroduced in 2004 and is updated twice a year in January and July. In July 2019, Webometrics has announced a list of 175 public and non-public universities in Viet Nam.

Accordingly, the top positions still belong to famous public universities in Vietnam such as Hanoi National University, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City ... The fierce competition takes place in the middle segment of the rankings. Universities in this segment have a significant change in rankings.

In this ranking, BVU is ranked 57th out of 175 Vietnamese universities, up 40 places compared to 97th in July 2018, among the most powerful top 100 universities which have significant jumps recently.

Among the four ranking criteria, BVU is one of the universities with the best Openness ranking in Vietnam (8602). This criterion is calculated based on 10 BVU's scientists records with the largest number of citations in the Google Scholar application. This is the result of the continuous efforts of BVU staff and teachers contributing to the world academic community on Google Scholar. In addition, the Excellence index (Top 10% of articles published by the University's lecturers and scientists in the Scopus list of the most cited scientific journals) increased by 108 places, outperformed compared to 2018.
Regarding the ranking method in 2019, Webometrics has adjusted the weight of the ranking criteria, the weight of the website size scale (Presence) reduced to 5% (previous evaluation 10%) and the Excellence assessing the quality of scientific publication based on the Scopus database (a bibliographic database containing summaries of scientific articles), increasing from 30% to 35%. This adjustment of Webometrics is intended to increase the level of academic quality assessment of higher education institutions.
