Ba Ria – Vung Tau University in cooperation with Korean Institute of Next Generation Computing (Korea) successfully organized the 4th International Conference on Next Generation Computing 2018

In the morning of 21st December 2018, the 4th International Conference on Next Generation Computing is officially opened. The conference welcomed the presence of Prof. Baik Sung Wook from Sejong University, Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Kiem – President; Dr. Tran Van Khanh - Board of Directors, former Secretary of the Provincial BRVT; Dr. Vu Van Dong, Mr. Le Van Toan - Vice President, and 52 researchers, scientists from Korea, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Thailand, etc. as well as the leaders of  Departments, Schools, Centers, faculties and students majoring in the information technology at Ba Ria - Vung Tau University.

The conference includes 3 main speeches and 6 sessions:

1. Assoc.Prof. Vo Dinh Bay (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology)

Topic: Mining High Utility Itemsets in dynamic profit databases

Main content: High Utility Itemset (HUI) mining is an important data mining task, which has gained popularity in recent years due to its applications in numerous fields. HUI mining aims at discovering itemsets that have a high utility (e.g. yield a high profit) in transactional databases. Although several algorithms have been designed for enumerating all HUIs, an important issue is that they assume that utilities (e.g. unit profits) of items are static. But this simplifying assumption does not hold in real-life situations. For example, the unit profits of items often vary over time in a retail store due to fluctuating supply costs and promotions. Ignoring this important characteristic of real-life transactional databases makes current HUI mining algorithms inapplicable in many real-world applications. To address this critical limitation of current HUI mining techniques, we study the novel problem of mining HUIs in databases having dynamic unit profits. To accurately assess the utility of any itemset in this context, a redefined utility measure is introduced.

Topic: Picture fuzzy clustering

Main content: Fuzzy clustering is considered as an important tool in pattern recognition and knowledge discovery from a database; thus, has been being applied broadly to various practical problems. The first fuzzy clustering algorithm is Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) proposed by Bezdek et al. in 1984. It is an iterative algorithm that modifies the centers and the partition matrix in each step in order to satisfy a given objective function. Bezdek proved that FCM converges to the saddle points of the objective function. Even though some results about fuzzy clustering and fuzzy decision support were achieved, the qualities and performances of those algorithms are not high as expected since the algorithms were developed on the basis of the traditional fuzzy sets of Zadeh, which contains some limitations regarding the uncertainty of membership degrees, the lack of hesitancy, the determination of fuzziness, etc.

3.Prof. Phayung Meesad (King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand)

Topic: Deep Learning and Applications towards Smart City Aspects

Main content: Big data has consequences for smart city to get valuable insights as the expansion of large amount of data retrieving the Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. Based on a large amount of data collected through various sources big data can be used to create decision models in various areas for a future impact on the lives of citizens in many aspects. In addition, machine learning plays an important role in analyzing and learning information from big data. Deep learning is one of many methods of machine learning that has been applied for many application domains include health care, machine translation, automatic text generation, image recognition, captions creation, auto driving, advertising, Earthquake prediction, finance, forecasting, etc. This talk will focus on the reviews of deep learning and applications towards smart city aspects in Thailand.
